Custard Slice - Sweet Curry - Homemade Noodles - Apple Crumble
John chops apples to make an apple crumble for 20 people

Apple Crumble


4 apples - peeled, cored and sliced

90g soft dark brown sugar

125g plain flour

155g caster sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 egg, beaten

2 tablespoons butter, melted

Apple Roll Pudding

Preheat oven to 190 C .
In a 23cm baking dish, mix sliced apples with brown sugar. In a large bowl, mix together flour, caster sugar, cinnamon and salt.
In a small bowl, beat together egg and melted butter. Stir into flour mixture. Spread evenly over apples.
Bake for 30 to 40 minutes or until topping browns


  Beef sweet Curry
for twenty people

2 kg beef cubes
12 cloves garlic Crushed
3 lg Onions chopped
2 apples Peeled and cubed
1 .5 cups raisins or sultanas
4 tablespoons sugar
4 tablespoons plum jam
4 tablespoons curry powder
salt to taste
4 tablespoon oil to cook beef cubes
2 cups beef stock
Heat oil and add beef & brown, add onion, garlic and curry powder, cook ¾ through, add the stock, apple, sugar, salt, and Jam.
Add the Sultanas and allow to stand for 5 minutes.

20 - U3A members sat down to a delightful Sweet Curry and brown rice with freshly made and cooked noodles and for sweets Apple Crumble and vanilla icecream.

For morning tea John brought along a Custard slice he'd made the night before


Something always gets lost

Custard Slice

2 X sheets puff pastry, cook in oven until golden brown
Mix, 2x Packet vanilla Instant puddings
1x 600 ml thicken cream
1x 300 mil full cream milk
Place cooked puff pastry sheet into tray
Place milk, cream into bowl
Sprinkle puddings over milk and mix with electric mixer for 1 minute
Pour over bottom sheet of puff pastry, level out and place top sheet of puff pastry
Place in fridge to set, make a thin icing with passion fruit and pour over the top
Pulp from two passion fruit will do

Spatzen noodles

4 cups plain flour

4 eggs
1 Tablespn salt
Approx 1/2 cup cold water

Flour in bowl, add salt, make a dent in the center with the wooden spoon and add about 1/2 cup of water and the eggs and beat the mixture into a fairly firm dough.

Rest the dough for 5 minutes, then force through the noodle maker into boiling water. When the noodles rise scoop them out with a large sieve.

The noodles can then be placed in a frypan and layered with butter chips and grated cheese and cooked on a slow heat for 10 minutes
