U3A members,
Colin and Beryl Roberts, among those attending the gathering
of interested people held by Astronomy Group leader, Professor
Tony Ward, at his house in Yeppoon. The occasion was the transit
of the planet Venus across the face of the Sun last Wednesday
6th June. It was a most interesting and informative day, thanks
to Tony and his wife Sylvia, who provided hospitality in a lovely
garden setting, the opportunity to observe through a telescope
and a camera, as well as pictures and articles of interest,
and explanations of the event. |
|
An
event that will happen again in the year 2117. So if you didn't
see it, Venus moved across the sun, travelling at 78,000miles
per hour and was visible as a small black dot against the suns
hot surface. This photo was captured live by Prof Tony Ward
at his observatory on the 6th june 2012. |
