27 of the 34 members
that nominated for the visit attended. The members were separated into
two groups.
Group 1.
Attended a Power Point presentation of the history of Coast
Guard and the reason why Rockhampton is only one of the
two towns in Australia that has an inland Coast Guard. This is due to
the size of the river and the complexity of rescues in the river delta.
and numerous rescue stories.
Group 2 attended
the session at the boat shed where the members viewed the vessels and
were shown the technology on the vessels that allows us to operate.
The groups spent half their time at both locations. Coast Guard provided
and excellent morning tea. The reports from the groups were very positive
to the morning out.
